Japanese Spitz are intelligent and vivacious little dogs. Playful, yet obedient the Japanese Spitz makes a wonderful companion and watchdog. Even though they are smaller dogs they still have great courage and will alert their owner if they feel that something is amiss. The Japanese Spitz does not realize what a small dog that it is. The Japanese Spitz can have tendency to bark, especially when a stranger approaches. They can be taught many things and will learn quickly if the owner is consistent. This lively dog loves to play and enjoys a game of catch. They are normally good with children and others pets. Japanese Spitzes - Description
The Japanese Spitz is a striking pure white dog with a strong body. Their outer coat is straight and long and their undercoat is short, soft and abundant. Their hair is shorter on the ears, face, and bottom half of the legs. The mane on their shoulders and neck is longer than the rest of their coat. Their tail is also covered with long hair and they carry in curled over their back. The Japanese Spitz ears are small, set high and forward facing. Their eyes are dark, oval shaped with dark rims. Their muzzle is pointed and their nose and lips are black. The overall shape of the Japanese Spitz face is a wedge like appearance. Japanese Spitzes - Origin
The Japanese Spitz originated in Japan from the Siberian Samoyed. Not to be confused with the American Eskimo who is believed to be the descendant of the German Spitz. The Siberian Samoyed was bred for smallness. Beginning in the late 1800's, the Japanese Spitz seems to be a small version of the Siberian Samoyed. They became very popular in the 1950's in Japan and more recently in Europe and North America.
Height 12-14 inches (30-36 cm.)

Japanese Spitzes - Living Conditions
The Japanese Spitz is an active indoor dog. If they are kept in an apartment they must be given daily exercise opportunities. They should be given a safe area to run and/or long walks daily.
Japanese Spitzes - Grooming
The Japanese Spitz must be brushed regularly, but should only be bathed when necessary. This breed is a clean dog overall. During their periods of shedding, a comb with a double row of metal teeth should be used to remove the hair. Overall, grooming Japanese Spitz is not difficult on the condition that it is done on a regular basis.
